i was looking at this as well but decided no...
recently bought the gpd win mini 2 and instantly realized it doesn't suit my gaming style since i mostly need keyboard for FPS games... instantly started looking at 8-10" windows tablets that allowed for gaming on travel with a surface pro like keyboard....
then came the onexplayer x1, which was interesting and reviewed by ETA prime as well but that new intel chip seems to have some work that needs to be done to get it competitive with AMD offerings.
then came along the minisforum v3... i wouldn't agree with others calling it a no name brand... it's been making miniature gaming PCs for a while now. Pretty well reviewed. I actually got my first minisforum mini PC about 1/2yr ago and stuck it on my basement TV to allow for big screen Steam gaming and gave up on the idea of buying a PS5... the quality is solid and gaming performance was on point for the price.
But in the end decided against it since this thing still costs like $1650+CAD... for that price you can get the legion slim 5 gen 8 14" with a friggin rtx 4060 and OLED screen. The dimensions are about the same but 2x as thick and 2x the weight but the legion will absolutely destroy this thing. The problem is you need so many accessories to make this thing game-able and by the time you add all those you're really not saving on space or weight... the only true benefit is usb-c charging which means you don't need to lug around another charger if you have one of those 100w gAn chargers for your phones during travel anyway.
I'm currently travelling in asia with my legion 7 16" laptop and find it to be too big and heavy esp with the 300w charger.. would love a 10-12" usb-c powerable gaming machine weighing 1kg or less and paired with keyboard that i can hook up with my nreal A/R glasses for the ultimate portable gaming machine without bulk

I think the best comparison (maybe the only really comparison) are the new Surface Pro 10s
https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/store/c ... lor=86888a
To spec one to match the v3 you're looking at about $3,429.99

Sad that you think that took me more than 2 minutes. Defending or bringing up points isn't "simping" in any way. I have no horse in this race. Pathetically weak that instead of actually arguing a point you just stand back and make fun of people instead. Incredible.

Off the top of my head, this sounds like an application for a Steam Deck or one of its competitors. I'm assuming that the A/R glasses replace the screen rather than supplement it.
I admit that I don't game so I don't know what matters.

For those interested, Retro Game Corps is a much more unbiased reviewer who will actually shit on bad products than ETA Prime, whom I use to just get latest gadget specs and overview since he gets a lot of these products first

It's a good review, retro is on my sub list as well.
But as stated before, ETA does more of a broad overview, doesn't make him automatically biased.
Both can exist and serve different needs.

This thing is pretty powerful and seems to work well in Linux and actually have some bios settings. Minisforum have a lot of small form factor PC and with Linux compatibility. Of course you can get more specs in a laptop.
It's rare to have:
14" Matte touch + active pen screen + high refresh + freesync + 100% DCI-P3
Dual fan cooling
32GB + 1TB
UHS-II SD card slot (you can get a half size adapter to msd that won't stick out afaik)
I'd rather it have a built in kickstand like the surface but maybe it works just fine. It's an odd first generation device but a cool one though for this type of device. I really wouldn't mind running Linux on it and replacing my Surface Pro 8. It definitely could be slicker. The new Thinkpad X12 Gen2 is coming as well but it's Intel and Linux compat no idea.
This is a decent deal but you have to be looking for this form factor else you can get much better laptops for the same price.
Edit: another weird pro with this form factor is that the keyboard is always ambient temperature.

To the surface pro owners, how annoying is the flip kick stand and the wobbly flip down keyboard when it comes to using the thing on a couch or side table or anywhere not a desk?

I'm not a Surface Pro owner. I do have a low-end small (10.3") computer from Lenovo in this format (Ideapad Duo 3 for Windows but I'm using Linux).
It is very compact and easy to carry. But using it is a bit annoying, in just the ways you imagine.
It would be worse if it were
- larger and heavier
- generating a lot of heat
- cooled by fans (that you should not block)
- delicate
- expensive
- something I wanted to do serious work on without docking
These are all attributes of the V3.
I would like one as a toy: it looks cool. But I would not want to have to use it.
Clam shells really are a good form factor if you want a keyboard and a lot of pixels.
If you only want a keyboard minority of the time, this format might be fine. I actually like tablets and don't use a keyboard with them.

I hated it enough that I would always just use tablet mode if a desk or flat surface wasn't available. It would flop over or the stand would dig in and be uncomfortable.

Moore's Law is Dead Youtube channel just reviewed the device. He didn't have to sign any NDA and received no money for reviewing it.
He's one of the more objective channels out there. Glad Minisforum wasn't aiming to have its product reviewed by only shills.

Tempting to get this. Road warrior here and this would be great to replace my portable monitor. it adds 1lb to my total backpack weight be shouldn't be an issue.

I'm hoping minisforum and other Chinese Mini PC makers get their hands on the SDE chips soon. Minisforum could just plug it into this device and have a Snapdragon version of the V3. That would be interesting

Yeah. And your mobile phone is a very expensive flashlight. But the feature is useful.
